Types of shoes and which one is best for you?

Shoes come in all shapes and sizes. Choosing the right one might get confusing considering the variety of options available. Unlike old times, shoes aren’t just used to protect feet now. They depict your personality. Knowing about them is essential so that you can pair them with the right outfits. Here is a list of different types of shoes, when they are best used and what they go well with.

Sports Shoes

Built to be lightweight and long lasting, sports shoes are made especially for athletes. They are crafted to run and endure the amount of pressure on it. Running shoes, generally come with rubber soles and sweat absorbent upper padding. Some have protruding spikes on the sole to help grip the ground while running. 

Sports shoes are best for sports activities and go well with sportswear like shorts/tracks & t shirts.

Loafers

Loafers are shoes that do not have laces. They are made to comfortably slide onto feet and removed with the same amount of ease. Originally designed for indoors, loafers have now grown onto a lot of other options. You can find loafers in a lot of materials and shapes. Mostly worn without socks, loafers are prone to stink. Loafers go well with anything casual and make a cool and relaxed look.

Sneakers

Evolved from athletic shoes, sneakers are one of the most popular types of shoes out there. Popularised in skate culture from a very long time, sneakers are now an essential part of anyone’s wardrobe. Available in multiple materials and styles, these kicks are second to none and are the most used type of shoes.

Sneakers look good on almost anything and can be worn to parties or casual meetings.

Boots

Boots are usually shoes made of leather or rubber covering the foot and the ankle. They are very popular in fashion and they do much more than just looking good- they protect the feet and ankle. Situations with water, mud, extreme temperatures and sharp hazards are a few use cases.  Boots are also used for ankle support in some cases.

Boots go well with casuals or formals and can be worn with almost anything.

Oxford Shoes

Oxfords are one of the most commonly used formal shoes. They are made out of leather and feature close lacing. While these are available in a lot of variations, they may be seen in black or brown more often.

Oxford shoes are a perfect match for formals and can be worn with semi formals as well.

Monk Strap Shoes

Monk strap shoes are more or less oxford shoes, but without the laces. Unlike loafers, monk shoes come with buckles or straps to secure the foot in place and attain the perfect fit. 

Monk Strap shoes are suitable to be worn with formals and even semi formals. They give a unique look since they are not very commonly seen.

Brogue Shoes

Brogue shoes are low heeled shoes that have perforations along the edges or top of the shoe. They are made out of leather and attract stand out from other formal shoes. These perforations also help in circulation of air and keep away bad odours.

Flip Flops

Flip flops are sandals which have a Y shaped strap for grip. The strap usually divides the big toe with the others. Some flip flops, called slides, have an unorthodox single and thick strap that covers the foot from one side to another only towards the front of the foot.

Flip Flops & Slides are good to be worn at home. They are commonly used as casual footwear.

High Heels

High heels are women’s footwear that have a heel height of more than one inch. They have a protruding heel towards the back end of the shoe and flat on the front. The foot sits in a tiptoe type of position, with the toes sitting flat and the heel sitting at a higher position. 

Heels go well with formals as well as casuals and party wear.

So, which is best for you?

More than just a necessity, shoes are now a part of our personalities and how we are perceived by the people around us. There are types of shoes for every occasion and each of them is unique in its own ways. Depending on the requirement, you can choose which suits you best. Oxfords, Monk Straps and Brogues are best for formals whereas sports shoes, sneakers, loafers, boots & flip flops are perfect for casuals. High heels go well with anything for women.
